Real People - Success Stories

Catha Beukes:

My success story is not really so much about weight loss, as I was not really overweight, but rather a case of getting my body into shape.

Before I used to ride bicycle, but when I had my daughter, it made things quite difficult. Especially because I was a single mother and was trying to keep my managerial position at Mugg & Bean, working every weekend, which resulted in me having to give up sport completely. Six months after my daughter’s birth, however, I was back in the gym.

I wanted to compete last year already, but I wasn’t ready yet at that stage, so Hennie and I decided that I was to compete in the novice championship league.  I did it more for myself than anything else, but in all honesty I don’t think I really knew what I was getting myself into. As a single working mother, getting up each morning at 4am really isn’t an easy thing to do…and I’m no sissy. The fact is that you have to be dedicated and focused, and at the end of the day, seeing the results is absolutely priceless!

There has definitely been times when I felt like it all was getting too much and I wanted to give up, but Hennie has this ability to motivate and push you to achieve even more than you could ever imagined yourself to achieve.

Arnold Schwarzenegger once said: "The mind always fails first, not the body. The secret is to make your mind work for you, not against you." With Hennie as my trainer I experienced this for real. You never really know exactly how much you are able to do unless you take a chance, and with Hennie behind you 100%, you feel that you need to just keep going and that you will be able to achieve the “unachievable”.

Without Hennie’s motivation and knowledge none of us would’ve been able to achieve what we have today. He is strict and you know that you are with the best trainer there is for you. It’s worth every minute!

What I can tell you is that it really is not easy to do everything on your own and financially you also take a bit of a knock, but it’s all worth it. I’d rather be a single mother with people looking up at me with respect. On top of that there is the need to achieve success on a professional level, but through exercise I have learnt that I just have to stay focus and I will be able to give my child everything she deserves.

On a personal note to Hennie I’d like to say thank you. You have given so much more meaning to my life.  My lifestyle has changed tremendously and I have been reaping the benefits every day.  My daughter and I are enjoying a better quality of life because of this, which is all I really wanted for us at the end of the day.

Nutrition also plays a major role in strength training. Your diet and bodybuilding supplements have to be regulated and carefully planned out.

Training Schedule

Throughout my bodybuilding career I would say a big challenge for me was to prove that conditioning rules and not size.

I train 5 to 6 days per week. I prefer to train 1 muscle group per day and I totally exhaust that group with 4 - 5 exercises.
